Covid 19 Advice

Dear Parents and Carers

Happy New Year to you all!

Attendance – Our attendance target is 96%

As usual we are taking this early opportunity to remind you how important it is that your children attend school regularly and on time – unless of course they are poorly. Children who come to school every day have the best chance to make the most progress they can and it is just as important to arrive on time so that your child does not miss vital learning steps: learning starts straight away at 8.45am during registration. The gate will close at 8:50am to enable learning to start on time. Online registration will close at 8:55am, if your child arrives after this time they will be recorded as late.

If your child is poorly, please phone the office / leave a message before 9am to let us know the reason as soon as you can so that our attendance records are kept up to date. If we have not heard from you we will have to contact you to find out why your child is absent either by phone or a visit from the Early Help Team.

Uniform

We would like to remind everyone that wearing the correct uniform is part of the school expectations and home school agreement.

Our uniform consists of a plain white or navy polo shirt / blouse, a navy blue sweatshirt / cardigan / fleece (no hoodies) grey or navy blue trousers / skirt / pinafore, black / grey tights and black shoes / boots with a low heel (not trainers) All accessories e.g. bows, head bands should be blue.

Children are allowed to wear small stud earrings though they must be taken out for PE sessions. Watches (not smart watches) can be worn but no other forms of jewellery are permitted.

Class PE Days are now as follows:

  • Monday = Reception
  • Tuesday = Year 4 and Year 5
  • Wednesday = Year 3
  • Thursday = Year 1 and Year 6
  • Friday = Year 2

Don’t forget your child will require a white t-shirt, black/blue bottoms and an extra set of TRAINERS. All KS2 children will need an outdoor kit.

Please also remember that earrings MUST be removed for PE sessions. Thank you.

PLEASE ENSURE PE KITS ARE IN SCHOOL EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK AS PUPILS WILL BE GIVE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES WHICH COULD HAPPEN ON ANY DAY OF THE WEEK.

School lunches

On Thursday 16th January we will be having ‘try a school lunch day’, the menu for this day will be roast turkey with stuffing and gravy, boiled potatoes, carrots, broccoli and homemade biscuit or organic fruit yoghurt and fresh fruit.

School Closure in the event of severe weather

In the event of snow, school will always try to remain open, but many teaching staff and support staff do not live locally so we have to take this into account when making decisions regarding closing / opening the school.

We always make the decision about whether to open the school as soon as possible on the morning after heavy snowfall, so please look out for texts or listen to the local radio stations for information. If snow arrives during the course of the school day, please make sure we can contact you and that we have the contact numbers of other emergency contacts, as we may have to take the decision early and ask you to collect your child quickly, so that all the staff and their families can get home safely.

Breakfast Club

Our Breakfast Club is open daily from 8.00am until 8.45am which includes breakfast.  The cost of the provision is £2.00 and subsidised for PP children at £1.50.  During the sessions the children are able to access a range of activities including construction, colouring and games on the X –Box.

Open Door Policy

At Brookfield, we have an open door policy, therefore, if you have any questions, queries or concerns please do not hesitate to see a member of staff.

As a Derbyshire County Council school we expect our parents to treat all school staff with the same respect and courtesy as you would expect from us.  Our staff have the right to work in a safe environment and will not tolerate behavior which is abusive, offensive or threatening.  In such instances we will take firm and effective measures to support any employee which is subject to unacceptable behavior.

Homework

Reminder that the homework that is expected for all pupil’s school is reading at least 5 times a week, practicing multiplication tables on Times Table Rock Stars and learning their spellings.  The extra curriculum homework is also encouraged.

INSET Dates

We have now set our INSET days for the rest of the year –

  • Monday 1st June 2020
  • Monday 20th July 2020
  • Tuesday 21st July 2020

Harvest Festival / Macmillan Coffee Morning

It was a great pleasure to see so many parents and carers join us for our Harvest Festival, the children were fantastic with their poems, songs and raps.  The food donations have been given to the Salvation Army Food Bank in Shirebrook, they were greatly received.  Our Macmillan Coffee morning was a great success, the donations and the cakes sold have enabled us to send a cheque for £211.  Many thanks for your support.

Halloween Disco

Many thanks to all the parents / carers for their support in the resourcing of items to be sold, decorating the hall and supporting the disco.  It was an amazing Halloween disco, a total of £550 was raised which will go towards new resources for pupils!

Year 1 / 2 Art Work

Our Year 1 and 2 classes have worked with a member of staff from Stubbin Wood School and have produced some incredible self portraits.  These should now have put on display in Shirebrook Library.  Please visit and see your child’s superb art work.

Thank you once again for your continued support and understanding.
